In just under a week’s time London’s Raindance Film Festival will begin. This is the first film festival that I’ll be attending since launching LouiseReviews and I have to admit I’m pretty excited about the festival, seeing so many new films, meeting film-makers…
Is a good remake possible?
When I was mooching around the stands at Empire Big Screen a few weeks ago, I watched the trailer for the remake of Footloose. I honestly didn’t know whether to laugh or cry….
5 movies I can’t wait to see… but will just have to!
This summer hasn’t exactly been a classic. Not in terms of the shocking weather and certainly not when you look at what’s been on at the cinema. Harry Potter was the first brilliant blockbuster of the year…
Top-Ten: Chick Lit Writers
There are few things more satisfying than getting lost in a book which offers nothing more than some romance, escapism, fun and a bit of a break from the doom and gloom of everyday life.
Top Ten: Bank Holiday Movies
Here we are – the last Bank Holiday Monday until Christmas. I’m sure there’s lots to do but I’m going to stick with the tradition of sitting watching movies…
Top Ten: Movie Musicals
Of all the Top Ten lists I’ve done so far, or am likely to do, the Top Ten Movie Musicals is the toughest I can imagine. I love musicals, be they on stage or screen, and without a doubt they are my favourite film genre.
Top Ten: Crime Writers
Every so often I worry that I’m not a “serious” enough reader. I don’t scour the new literary releases looking for the critics’ choice as my next purchase. I don’t obsessively plough my way through the shortlists of the highbrow book prizes. That’s not to say that I don’t read any literary fiction at all, but offered the choice of a Booker Prize winner or a good crime thriller I’d pick the latter any day of the week.
There is a wealth of enjoyable crime fiction available and hundreds of new and established crime novelists but I tend to find myself returning to the same authors over and over again. Here, in alphabetical order, are my top ten crime writers.
Empire Big Screen – Day Two Review
Guest post by James Eckersley
Having been warned about the organisation at the Big Screen event (Louise recommended bringing a patient face – not something I possess) I was pleasantly surprised that there was minimal effort required to get to our seats in the initial Diamond Ticket holders Showcase in the morning. Giving up phone and camera were the main hardships, but understandable if we were seeing something unfinished that the film-makers didn’t want to get onto the internet out of context.
We saw so much in the initial session that I can only really go into the highlights – there were big reactions from the crowd for exclusive footage from ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’ (presented by Guy Ritchie), which looked good. I’ll be interested to see Jared Harris as Moriarty and Stephen Fry play opposite Robert Downey Jnr as Mycroft, a brutal fight scene from Stephen Soderbergh’s ‘Haywire’ – performed without stunt doubles, and ‘The Amazing Spiderman’ footage that screened at Comic Con.
Empire Big Screen – Day One Review
This entry is part 2 of 3 in the series Empire Big Screen (2011) I’m now on my long break between sessions at Empire’s Big Screen so it’s a good time to report back on my thoughts so far. First – the positives. The screening of ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ with a […]
