Ghostbusters 3 – are we going to call them?

Dan Aykroyd is still hopeful that Ghostbusters 3 will be made. He seems confident that the third installment will start filming in Spring next year. This film will apparently feature new, younger Ghostbusters taking on the mantle of protector against all things ectoplasmic from the original stars, although Aykroyd still isn’t sure if Bill Murray will be involved with the new film.

Another Earth to open Raindance

This entry is part 1 of 30 in the series Raindance 2011

Raindance Film Festival has announced that the UK premiere of sci-fi drama Another Earth will open this year’s festival. Another Earth, directed by Mike Cahill, was a huge hit at this year’s Sundance Film Festival where it won the Alfred P Sloane prize for “focusing on science or technology as a theme, or depicting a scientist, engineer or mathematician as a major character”….

World War Z comes to Glasgow – and my dad gets involved in the action

Glasgow City Centre has been taken over by mindless, bloodthirsty creatures hell-bent on violence and mayhem. So many jokes come to mind about rough estates, Old Firm fans….

Shammi Kapoor Dies

Bollywood superstar Shammi Kapoor has died at a Mumbai hospital at the age of 79. Kapoor, part of an Indian acting dynasty, starred in over 100 films and was called the “Elvis Presley of India” due to his popularity and enthusiastic dance routines.

Reg Hollis: Best Actor In The World?

Jeff Stewart, former star of The Bill, has won the Best Actor award at the Manhattan Film Festival for his performance in the Soviet-era drama Under Jakob’s Ladder. Stewart, who played the annoying PC Reg Hollis, famously went through a very tough time after being axed from The Bill so it’s great to see him have such a successful comeback.

Hi-No Silver!

Disney have called “wooooahhhh boy” on their planned production of The Lone Ranger. Due to be directed by Gore Verbinski and star Johnny Depp it seems that the $250 million price tag is too high for them, which is completely understandable. It’s not as if the Pirates of the Caribbean team of Verbinski and Depp have a history of making obscene amounts of money for the studio is it?

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Images Released

One of the films I’m most looking forward to seeing this year is David Fincher’s adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s novel The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo starring Daniel Craig. Images and potted biographies of the main characters have now been released and I particularly like the look of Robin Wright as Erika Berger and Embeth Davidtz as Annika Blomkvist.

Yet another Bridget Jones film given the go-ahead

EW is reporting that Working Title has confirmed a third Bridget Jones film is in the pipeline. The film promises more tension between Bridget and Mark Darcy and another romp with Daniel Cleaver. I really enjoyed the first film but I found the second instalment frustrating. How much more of Bridget’s pathetic, whiny, self-indulgent bleating can we put up with? I doubt I’ll be rushing to see this one.

Another good week for Harry Potter

As I predicted last week Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 continues to do extremely well at the box-office worldwide. In the past week it has climbed to third in the list of highest-grossing films of all time. Apparently it is unlikely it will challenge the James Cameron duo of Avatar and Titanic at the top of the list, I’m still not sure I agree but either way it’s a great result for the final chapter in the franchise.

Sue Sylvester dropped from Glee 3D. Is there any point seeing it now?

I’m a bit of a Gleek. Not a massive, massive fan but it’s fun. There’s a lot of excitement about the 3D cinema release of the live Glee experience but none from me. The only thing that could make the film worthwhile would be an appearance by the fantastic Jane Lynch as sadistic cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester. The news that her scenes have been cut just convinces me that I’m not interested in seeing the film at all. There’s only so much autotuning one girl can cope with.
