Raindance Film Festival has announced that the UK premiere of sci-fi drama Another Earth will open this year’s festival.
Directed by Mike Cahill, Another Earth was a huge hit at this year’s Sundance Film Festival where it won the Alfred P Sloane prize for “focusing on science or technology as a theme, or depicting a scientist, engineer or mathematician as a major character”. The film is set on the day that a duplicate planet Earth is discovered. An astrophysics student and composer find their lives intertwining after a tragic accident.
Since its inception 19 years ago Raindance has developed a reputation for showcasing the best in independent film and discovering exciting new writing, acting and directing talent. Films premiered at the festival have included Pulp Fiction, Memento and The Blair Witch Project and by the looks of it Another Earth promises to be an exciting addition to the Raindance programme.
This year’s festival will include 80 UK premieres from over 25 different countries. A full programme is going to be announced at the beginning of September and I’m really excited to see what else is going to feature.
