It’s been a few years since I read Jonathan Safran Foer’s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. It’s a book that I enjoyed while reading, but it hasn’t particularly stayed with me. I read it, liked it, moved on. It had totally left my radar until I saw the trailer for the film adaptation earlier today. Stephen Daldry’s latest directorial feature looks like it could be a fantastically moving film – felt myself well up just watching it. The appeal partly lies in the cast – Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock are two of the most likeable actors about at the moment and I reckon both are hoping for another trip to the Oscars with this one. I’ll keep an eye out for more news but would be interested to know what you think about this trailer.
They kill Tom Hanks – I can’t believe it. I thought there was an unwritten rule against such practices unless your name was Spielberg. This looks like a weepy to me. It might work but the trailer doesn’t really do it justice. However, a great choice of music – love that U2 track.
My husband has a theory about Tom Hanks – he may not die very often but he’s pretty much always the victim. Think about it…it’s not that far from the truth.
That is very true. He’s certainly made a career out of taking it on the chin.
Good observation! Totally agree. This one looks too depressing though I’m intrigued by Hanks/Bullock pairing.
Have you read the book? It’s not bad – not that depressing, and Hanks/Bullock is surely the dream team?
Hmm… I’m not sure what my thoughts are about this. Hanks and Bullock are very likeable and I think, at least in parts, it will be a weepy. I’ll see what the vibe is nearer the time but for now I think it’s probably a rental for me.
I can’t wait to see this! I’m hoping to read the book first.
