Cinderella

It’s not enough for Disney to make huge profits from the Star Wars and Marvel universes, the House of Mouse is now exploring its own back catalogue in the search for more money-making schemes. The latest wheeze is to produce big-budget, live-action versions of the classic animations…

Jack The Giant Slayer

The current Hollywood craze for reimagining fairytales as big budget films has passed me by. The Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland irritated me, it was too much of same old manic faced Johnny Depp and wild eyed Helena Bonham-Carter for my liking…

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Earlier today I celebrated Stephen Sondheim’s 83rd birthday by watching and reviewing West Side Story. A little later in the day and it seemed appropriate to go about as dark as possible with movie musicals and have a blood-splattered evening…

Les Miserables

Some people have books, films, paintings or pieces of great classical music that are part of their soul. No – my sigh of relief was entirely due to the fact that Nick Jonas hadn’t won the role…..

Do you hear the Hollywood stars sing?

The overwhelming success of the Les Miserables 25th anniversary concert has given a boost to the possibility of a film adaptation actually happening. Rumours have been flying around for a while now and it seems almost certain that Tom Hooper will direct and Hugh Jackman will star as Jean Valjean. I’m quite excited by this as I love Jackman’s voice and I think he’ll do the part justice. Some of the other names suggested are a little worrying….
