I wasn’t fussed about the forthcoming Avengers film, the latest in Marvel Comic’s series of adaptations until I saw Captain America. I loved it and think it was one of the best blockbusters of summer 2011. Then I discovered that Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon was writing and directing. I was sold, this looked like the film to beat next year. The first trailer has now been released…
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close Trailer
It’s been a few years since I read Jonathan Safran Foer’s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. It’s a book that I enjoyed while reading, but it hasn’t particularly stayed with me. I read it, liked it, moved on. It had totally left my radar until I saw the trailer….
Festival Preview: 10 Unmissable Raindance Films
In just under a week’s time London’s Raindance Film Festival will begin. This is the first film festival that I’ll be attending since launching LouiseReviews and I have to admit I’m pretty excited about the festival, seeing so many new films, meeting film-makers…
J. Edgar Trailer
We’re now well into the back half of the year and it’s time for the Oscar contenders to start rearing their heads and making their pitches for glory. Clint Eastwood’s latest assault on the Academy is J. Edgar…
Moneyball Trailer
Moneyball is Brad Pitt’s latest film and I must admit when I heard about it I wasn’t that interested. Pitt stars as the coach of a poverty-stricken baseball team who turns to a computer programmer to help identify which players he needs to buy. Sound good? No not to me either but the trailer has made me wonder. Pitt appears to be in charismatic form as the determined coach and I am now beginning to see the appeal of Moneyball.
Can Cancer Be Funny?
It’s a thorny subject which can polarise opinions. Is it appropriate to create comic responses to tragic events? Should we really look for the funny side of something that isn’t in any way amusing? Where do we draw the line between edgy humour and being offensive…
Contagion Tops US Box Office
A couple of weeks ago I called Contagion one of my must-see films of the year. It seems I’m not alone. The star-studded thriller about a deadly virus spreading across the US debuted at the top of the US box-office this weekend making a healthy $23 million in its first two days. The buzz on Twitter is good too – looks like I picked well.
We Need To Talk About Kevin Film Trailer Released
Lionel Shriver’s brilliant and shocking Orange Prize-winning novel We Need To Talk About Kevin has been adapted for the big screen. The film stars Tilda Swinton and John C Reilly as the couple whose son Kevin murders students and teachers at his high school. The Guardian has a sneak peek at the trailer. The book is outstanding but I’m unsure how appealing a film with quite so many unattractive characters will be for cinema audiences.
Battleship trailer revealed
I’ve watched the trailer, but I’m still no closer to discovering how Universal have managed to make a full length film out of an 80s board game. There’s battleships certainly, but no-one is saying “E4 – kapow”. There’s a blonde girl, there’s Rihanna and Liam Neeson – there also appear to be unexplained ships that look a bit like Transformers. Still, any trailer which responds to a query about what weapons have to be fired with the line “All weapons” is fine by me. Connect 4 next?
